Books + Color Hit Seattle

Added on by m.k.s.

The Secret Language of Color  co-authors - Arielle Eckstut and Joann Eckstut - will be talking about the use of color in bookstores at the American Bookseller Association's conference in Seattle this week.  They recently collaborated with m.k.s client, [words] Bookstore, and the studio is thrilled that images of the award-winning window design and custom, hand painted [words] wall make an appearance in their presentation to the ABA crowd.

Their recent book, The Secret Language of Color, is stunning eye candy for artists and book lovers alike.  Get your copy through [words] and contact the studio if you'd like us to procure you a signed copy.

Guest Artist Talk: "What Happens If...: A Decade of Making"

Added on by m.k.s.

Teaching artist and artist colleague, Lance Paladino, invited Keane to be a guest artist presenter during his Joan Mitchell Foundation Young Adult Program (ages 18-28), held at Parsons this weekend.  The presentation, titled "What Happens If...: A Decade of Making" shared the variety of styles, and risks, taken over the years (high school to present) and emphasized the importance of play, having fun, and exploration ("what happens if...?") in making art throughout the course of one's life.  At the end, students were invited to reflect on what inspired them: they wrote down a technique or idea they would like to try in the future, and made a drawing of an artwork they saw during the presentation that stood out.  Students were invited to donate their drawings and compile them into an accordion book to be added to the meghan.keane.studio collection; the young adult artists who participated now have work in a private collection.

The video of the presentation will available online shortly, shot by Brooklyn Media House.

m.k.s partnered with Fundación Colombia Nuevos Horizontes to bring an experimental printmaking workshop to displaced individuals in Colombia. Colombia has the largest internally displaced population--larger than Afghanistan, Iraq, or any African nation--a fact that is not particularly well-known to the American public. The inter-generational workshop explored collagraph techniques (a type of relief printmaking) using economical materials and printing without a press: masking tape + floor + colored pencils + paper. Workshop participants ranged in age from three to over 40. Each artist focused on drawing something that was personally meaningful using the modified collagraph technique.
